Really. I liked it because:

It wasn't Forgotten Realms
Gnomes were all dead
Halflings were cannibals

I could go on, but "You had me at Halflings were cannibals" :P

The original 1e DMG. It had all sorts of useful information that was worth knowing. It was how I learned a cooper was a barrelmaker.

Psychos? Did they look like psychos to you? They were vampires. Psychos do not explode when sunlight hits them, I don't care how *&$#ing crazy they are.

1st ed Unearthed Arcana

2nd ed Shi'ir Handbook, Draconomicon, Spacefarer's Handbook, and Drow of Underdark (and I too loved Darksun as a setting but no one book stands out to me)

3rd-3.5 Unearthed Arcana

4th I agree DMG 1 is a great book.

2nd had many old favorites that changed my ideas of running a campaign. I also enjoyed the historical campaign source books that came out in 2nd (though I never used any in game play).

Well since it was asked what is my fav WotC product not DnD book I won't mention older books. In that case... I would have to say ... I guess Fiendish Codex 1(followed closely by the 2nd one) but I have always been a huge fan of using demons and such in games. Some close runner up's Tome of Magic, I just loved the Shadow magic stuff even if I wasn't a huge fan of the no vantican magic system it used and Unearthed Arcane for the Mana system for magic. That would likely be my top 4 in order

I have to agree with all the praise for the 3E FRCS, too, this was (imo, at least) the best setting book WotC ever produced, and maybe the best it ever will..

And while I have issues with randomized packs, WotC's cheap, prepainted, plastic minis have been a boon to myself and a host of other gamer/husband/wife/parents who can no longer spend half their income and time on purchasing and painting metal minis. So this has to rank as a favorite WotC product (especially the time I slowly placed 34 dark stalker minis on the battlemat - $6 from ebay, priceless players' faces).

I've only read it and scanned it. Strange that you think its the best.
