Quote: DW is in the process of setting up its distribution channels---most distributors were unwilling to sign on for yet-another d20 company's products sight-unseen, and I don't think anyone would blame them for that In the meanwhile, you can order directly from DW or purchase copies of MoZ4 at GenCon from the DW booth (#2025, near the open gaming tables and one row over from the autograph line, in the western section of the exhibitor hall). |

Nice of you to say that Clark. I don't have the poop on what happened between NG and Mr Kuntz, and I'm not asking here (none of my business really) but I am happy NG published the first three and I think it's pretty decent of you to say that. You have always said the fans come first and you proved it once again.
I must have joined a mailing list or something cuz I got an e-mail from Mr Kuntz offering the thing as a pre-sale. Some signed copies are also offered at no extra cost. First come, first served. So, I oredered one. A signed copy is always nice memorabilia and since I can never go to Gencon...... Got another signed copy of a module called Curse on Hareth by the now defunct The Comapinons company, signed by William John Wheeler from the ol' 1E days. (great little module by the way) Now if I could only get a signed copy of Rappan Athuk Revised..... |

skeet (and anyone else not attending GenCon)---You can order MoZ4 directly by emailing sales@diffworlds.com (there's no shopping cart yet, though you can pay via PayPal). edit: Oh, and you will also be able to order via Amazon soon.
gondolin---Rob sent out a mailing to everyone who's registered on his boards, which is how you got that email notice. Scott---You'll also be able to say hello to Tadashi Ehara, the publisher behind Different Worlds, and to Ryan "Destan" Smalley, who has two additional d20 titles being published by DW. Clark---Thank you for the kind words, they're quite appreciated! I know that some folks who weren't involved with d20 gaming since the beginning have asked where MoZ1-3 can be purchased, and I've been pointing them your way, so you may want to bring some copies to the show (if you weren't already planning to do so). |

It's been a long time | ||
|
I remember three things that they published, though they may have released more.
Curse on Hareth : adventurers arrive at a village called hareth in a mountainous. Some people are dying and goblins have been raiding the village more frequently. Good thing the recently arrived miller Lani Belson is there to help the village adept. Includes floorplans to use with figs, magic items, herblore, detailed village with okay map. Mr Wheeler signed my copy and wrote this : Michel, enjoy Curse on Hareth... remember, Lani Belson speaks ill of no man...... the rat! Cards of Power. For those of you who think the the deck of many things is bad, here is 3 decks of cards with great or very bad results. The deck used is a tarot deck, you can use the complete deck (four suites and major arcana) or just the four suites + the cards have a different effect depending on wether you draw them straight or upside down. Onec, a paladin in a group I DM,ed once turnied into a vampire, in broad daylight in the middle of a desert. The third deck is a set of cards on cardbouard you cut out, there is a small scenario included to retrieve the deck before you can use it. Ther are also several magic items with this supplement. Dangerous alcoves (not sure about the title) Dont own it, I believe it is a series of rooms with tricks/traps to put in dungeons Those three products hail back in the days of 1E, so D&D is not mentionned and stats are vague, you have to guess what level you want to give the NPC's. Monsters are just liseted as Orcs, Goblins, Ogres but in a general way so as not to have any problems with TSR. It is easily adapted to D&D or Rolemaster. They also distributed dungeon dressings to stick on maps, instead of having to draw them, for use with mini's |

Gondolin/Grodog:
The Companions put out five modules (I own all of them) as well as a number of accessories. The five modules are: Streets of Gems Gems for Death The Curse on Hareth Plague of Terror Brotherhood of the Bolt There is also a mythical sixth module from them, Sacrifices to the Orc Lord. It was apparently never produced, but rumors of its existence seem to perdure. Here's a thread of mine on the Acaeum on the topic: www.acaeum.com/phpBB2/about157.html I have to say that the modules are pretty good; they definitely don't railroad the characters. They are all part of the "Islandia Campaign" which at one point was going to be produced by TSR (Wm. John Wheeler, one of the principals of The Companions, later worked for TSR as an editor). Got MoZ4 yesterday | ||

Nice signed copy for my collection.
Reprint of original cover from 1984 at the end of module is a nice 1E feel addie. Zayene is one tough hombre and the players are in for on heck of a challenge throughout this series. Page count a little higher than the others though the font is larger. That can be considered a good thing since I am not gatting any younger and the fine print in some modules is getting harder to read. Didn't have much time to read the whole thing. Once I have read it I will get beck on the board to let you folks know what I think..... without giving away to much Smash the barbarian say's : Save our trees, eat beavers!

Quote: Actually, that was a definite selling point at GenCon too---several fans recognized the original artwork and were pleased to see it included as a tribute of sorts. Quote: I hope so. When initially statting out Zayene, I really wanted to make him the parnoid, planful, thinking villain. Instead of a simple power word stun, he got an empowered chain lightning or he might employ a quickened truestrike followed by maximized vampiric touch (or Otto's irresistable dance if your DM's particularly sadistic, then to be followed up by the chain lightining...), etc. Quote: Sounds good. Do please chime in with your thoughts when you can, gondolin! I'll also be posting some minor errata soon. So much for a perfect manuscript, even after the long wait grodog

Re: Got MoZ4 yesterday | ||

Read most of it last night. It is quite different than the first three. Hackandslashers are in for a surprise. Not to many monsters in there and some of the ones you do meet aren't there for a fight. This module need good preparation, several reads and players who can stop and think before they act.
Content wise it is the smallest of the 4, but the module in itself probably would take more sessions to play than Maze 2 or 3. There are a few ticks/traps in there that are quite deadly, so if you want to take up this challenge, don't play with you favorite PC. One of the interesting aspect of the module is the way in which some rooms will react or change depending on the player actions in certain areas. Not the kind of thing you see in your run of the mill module. So far if you had to look at the series as a whole, every module has a different feature that makes it unique and avoids being repetitive with the others in the series as opposed to, say, the giant series of 1E. I mean let's face it, the G1 to 3 series were pretty much the same. Go in, kill giants, survive. (still one of the best series IMHO) Whereas MoZ 1-4 is defined as MoZ 1 : dungeon crawl with tricks and traps. MoZ 2 : traval to four different pocket universes, each with a different environment requiring bashing, roleplaying or trap/tick finding avoiding. MoZ 3 : adventure with a living population in a tower, with complex but realistic reactions, placement and actions by inhabitants which allows the players to realy more on role-playing to change things. If done well, very little fighting will be required, and what fighting there is, is quite deadly. MoZ 4 : visit of an outer planar pocket where characters spend as much time trying to understand what the heck is going on than fighting. Definily not for seekanddestroy types. These of course are just a very condensed view of the series. All in all, I am quite pleased with the series. For those of you who don't have this yet (and you must feel very aloneat this ppoint) don't think for a minute that you can start this at a moment's notice when your friends are over at your place, are bored and decide that, what the heck, let's play this. Preparation is the key. One thing that does bother me is the fact that the whole 4 part series spans levels 9-12. I suppose they have each been tested individually but has anyone tested this in its entirety? I noticed that levelling is quick in 3E. If you allow players to level up during the series it was my impression that players could exceed the level limit, thus requiring the DM to reajust certain encounters as the party progresses. That's it for now. Smash the barbarian say's : Save our trees, eat beavers!

I would have to agree. the party I have is averaging 11th lvl. my players haven't made it thru M1 yet and if I gave them the XP in the DMG they would have already leveled once?!?!? I just give them 33% XP instead.
