I've had this midule since it was released, just never had an opportunity to put it to use.
But finally, tonight I did.
My Dragonlance group got together tonight, we're running through the Spectre of Sorrows from the Age of Mortals Campaign series. Two of the players were unable to make it and instead of cancelling, we decided to do a side trek.
There were only two characters, a fighter and a wizard. With this being a higher powered campaign then I am accustomed to running, I decided to see how they would fare in Crane's tower, both characters having some powerful items they recovered in the course of the Key of Destiny and thus far in Spectre of Sorrows.
The characters are:
Kylana Lethani: Female Silvanesti Elf (12th level fighter) Of her equipment, the most notable item is a dragonlance or more specifically, Huma's Lance. Notable in this instance because it has the Holy quality and is capable of casting dismissal once per day on an outsider it injures.
Kethahnel Solnorre: Male Silvanesti Elf (5th level wizard/ 3rd level White robe/ 4th level Griffon Wizard). He has in his possession the Tear of Mishikal which is a holy item capable of healing, restoration and other things.
I changed a few things, primarily due to the setting. Crane was a renegade from the Order of High Sorcery and a known diabolist. In the past, several members of the Order tried to bring him to justice but failed. His eventual fate is unknown but his tower has remained unihabited since then.
Mechanics-wise the only thing I changed were the arcane lock levels to 10. Primarily due to the lack of a rogue, writing it off as weakening of the spells during the time Krynn lost it's magic.
Other then that I left everything as is, I didn't plan on being nice or making this easy.
Overall this was a blast. Probably one of the funnest dungeons I've ran.
Some of the notable experiences:
Melissa the Erinyes - They were of course suspicious of her at first. I played her well and put them at ease some. Her story was she was sent by the Order of High Sorcery to bring Crane to justice. She challenged him to a duel and lost and he held her under a geas since then , keeping her trapped here. They cautiously bought the story (she was wearing red robes kind of fitting with the story).
This gave her time to have the Blue Lotus take effect (Wizard failed his save).
The fighter caught on however.
"So you've been here almost 100 years?"
"Has it been that long? Hell, I guess so its just been so...."
"What have you been doing for food?"
"Well...ummm.....I've been...oh #!@! it!"
And so the fight began.
The Iron Golem - This was a pretty intense fight. The wizard used Jolt and Bull's Strength on the fighter, then did his best to keep it slowed. She in turned made use of it being slowed and her spring attack feat and whittled it down. Twice she was almost killed. but the wizard was able to keep her going with some heals from the Tear of Mishikal.
They had a blast, used up an ungodly amount of resources in the form of potions, wand charges, etc. Finally limping out of the place triumphant.
The fight against the Cornugons went over to easy for them though. She dismissed one with a stab from her lance and the wizard had a dismissal spell ready for a 2nd. That left 1 and a handful of Barbazus.
All-in -all it was a great night. They were thrilled they managed to do it with just 2 of them and I was happy to whittle away their expendable magic items without them gaining much of anthing but scars and XP in return. (They never found the amulet of the sphere) and had no desire to try to make do with the sphere.
