Hi-Tek "Hi-Teknology". An okay hip hop album. It would've been much, much better if it didn't have all the "guest raps" by other
guys on it. This is one trend in current hip hop that I'll be glad when it's over. Most of the "guest raps" don't even have much to do
with the main part of the song. It's just random lyrics dropped into the mix.
It's worth the $2.50 I spent on it. I was expecting better, since Hi-Tek is supposed to be part of the "underground" scene comprised of other artists I like such as Mos Def and the Roots. |

Now listening to King Crimson "In the Court of the Crimson King." I decided to take a little break from the new stack of stuff to dip back into my
collection. It's been a while since I've listened to this one.

Various Dallas Green tunes, such as Coming Home and The Girl to name a couple. Until recently I snickered at his City in Colour stuff for being p-u-s-s-y music
with lyrics from a 14 year-old emo girl's diary, and I've never been a fan of Alexis on Fire. Still not an AoF fan, but his City in Colour stuff is
growing on me, despite some of the whiny lyrics.

Please Don't Leave Me by P!nk. I highly recommend going on youtube and watching the video it is rather amusing.

Now listening to Bob Baldwin "Newurbanjazz.com". I'm on the first song and it's the first listen, so way too early to be able to give an
opinion on it.
I'm almost done listening to the stockpile of about 25 cds that I picked up for about $2.50 each from the final days of Circuit City. I only have 5 left to listen to, and the really cool thing is that out of all the ones I've listened to thus far I just had one that I didn't like, and only 4 that I thought were so-so. The rest I would've been very happy with even if I'd paid full price. |

Hil St. Soul "Soulidified." An r&b album I picked up for cheap from Circuit City's going out of business sale. It's actually quite good
for a contemporary r&b album, but that's not a genre I'm into all that much.
She sort of walks the line between the contemporary r&b sound and the classic r&b sound (before drum machines, samplers, etc). But she's not as retro as the current artists that I really like such as Maxwell, Alicia Keys, and Erykah Badu. I've listened to this 3 times and I'm still debating whether or not I'll keep it. There's one song that I really like quite a bit (Too Good To Be True), and the rest is pretty good as well... just not so much my thing. |

Scott Hamilton "Across the Tracks". A nice bluesy jazz album. The sort of music that gets played in the bar scenes of detective/crime movies. Good
stuff.

A great tribute album to Muddy Waters. Guest musicians are Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, Brian May, Steve Miller, Gary Moore, Richie Sambora, and many more. |

Quite the impressive guest line up on that disk. You know, I still haven't gotten around to checking out Muddy Waters. It's amazing that I can have
such a huge music collection that I've been amassing over a couple decades now and there are still huge holes in the collection. And that's just for
"pop" music such as rock, blues, and classic r&b.
I'm giving Hil St. Soul's cd "Soulidified" another listen. I posted about this one before a couple posts up. I've found another song on it that I really, really like so I'll keep it. I plan on putting 3 or 4 songs from it onto my Ipod. She's really talented, just not in the same league as Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, or Alicia Keys. |

Tom Petty "Into the Great Wide Open" via the Ipod. It's been awhile since I last listened to this, and it's always cool to sort of

killer live album | ||

Jill Scott "Live in Paris". This is a cd and dvd set, and was a good deal at the original price, but at 80% off it was a steal! Just killer. Jill
is in good voice and was just in that right place artistically to have a peak show, and we're lucky enough that it was recorded. Her backing band is first
rate as well. For anyone interested in checking her out, this would be a great starting point. A very talented artist.
I've just listened to the music thus far, and based on the material, the dvd will be a real treat. Now I'm almost done listening to all of the 25+ cds that I picked up from Circuit City's going out of business sale. Though it's mostly r&b and jazz -- whereas my first love is rock -- I really scored a lot of great music. In particular, I rediscovered Erykah Badu. The one cd that I had of her previously didn't do much for me, but the two "new" ones that I got via the sale really impressed me. Now I'll have to go and listen to the other one to see if it was an off album or if I just had failed to appreciate it. |
