Ok, gang! It's official. I'm impressed with Pathfinder.
So, to blow the dust off of my monster-making skills and get me acquainted with the new rules for monster design, I'm starting up the One-Step-At-A-Time game. The Pathfinder Bestiary has great monster design rules, but if you don't have it, the same rules can be found online with the Pathfinder Reference Document. They even have a step-by-step walk through for making monsters, so those are the steps we'll follow. Paizo changed things around so they made more sense, so we'll do that too!
So... here we go! One-Step-At-A-Time is back!
Step 1: Concept
Pathfinder starts with the CR, and builds around that, unlike 3.x, wherein you made the monster and then tried to shoehorn a CR into it. So, we'll do the same. It makes SO much more sense to do things that way. Thanks for the DUHHH moment, Paizo. It's so obvious!
The first person to respond to this post can determine the monster's CR. This will also provide us with the general guidelines for choosing ability scores and such when we get to that step.
