I thought I might post here some of my conversion notes for running this 3.5 adventure in the Pathfinder Beta (and later perhaps Pathfinder). I'll try to keep spoilers to a minimum, but there are inevitably some here. If anyone has any advice on PF conversion or running these adventures, I'm all ears! I put this in a generic quasi-Europe homebrew setting, but looking through the Golarion stuff later, it would have been really easy to put in (so much so I almost want to retcon it into Golarion). Map of Golarion Khemit is Osirion, and all else likely falls into place.

Posts: 516 Jul 21 09 8:21 AM Wraith Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	My plan was to do an on-the-fly conversion, essentially running the 3.5e module in Pathfinder, and re-statting one or two key NPCs per adventure. I tried it with one of the major threats at the conclusion of the module, and converting changed much less than I thought it might. Lots of little bonuses changed, but as it turned out, most all the total bonuses remained the same in the end. Re-statting everything out is not worth it, overall; I now suspect that there are really few NPCs in this adventure that are worth doing that with at all. Spoiler: Khaibet [+] This is the Beta, of course: a number of things will change in the official book next month. Humans get a +2 to any one ability score: boosting Dex improves his initiative, AC, ranged attack, and reflex save by 1. Toughness was replaced with the key Selective Channelling, but his hit points remain the same due to ranks in his favored class. His skills were rejiggered, but the changes to his stat block seem fairly inconsequential, even if play will be different in practice. Really, the only major change was the change in domain abilities. I like his 3.5e domain powers much better, they're more like the "black hand of Set", but the Pathfinder way of channelling energy is such a game-changing element of play that it's something of a wash. My impression here is that 3.5e to Pathfinder is a much less significant shift than 3e to 3.5e.

Posts: 516 Aug 28 09 8:29 PM Wraith Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	No worries In my Spoils of Set story thread, I posted how I was placing the "Coils of Set" in Golarion. Briefly, I put Majoor in southern Andoran, and Merchant's Bluff in northwestern Osirion at the borders with Thuvia. I suspect a more "standard" way to do this would be to put Majoor in southern Taldor, or even Qadira, Katapesh, Osirion, or Jalmeray. Merchant's Bluff could go literally anywhere in the Inner Sea. Either way, the third part of the module is clearly somewhere in the Mwangi Expanse.

Posts: 516 Aug 28 09 8:40 PM Wraith Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	At present, the party has yet to go either of the module's small dungeons. Most of what they have encountered has been occasional, random attacks from the OH. I'm not sure if its the party composition or the Pathfinder powerup, but the party has found its initial encounters with the Ophidian Hand very easy. The party barbarian does a crazy amount of damage, and Pathfinder's handling of channelling energy dramatically expands the amount of healing the party has access to. Those encounters need to be dialed up a little bit, I suspect, so the PCs find them a little less trivial. I'm not sure whether the answer would be more ruffians or tougher ruffians. I think if I were to run this again in Pathfinder... [+] what I would do is create an "Ophidian Hand brute squad", a collection of 1st-level fighters and barbarians or 2nd- to 3rd-level warriors. When the OH strikes, they would get together a gang of at least as many ruffians as the party has members, including at least one member of the "brute squad" in their ranks.

Posts: 516 Sep 30 09 10:21 AM Wraith Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Now that the Pathfinder hardcover is out, it's easy to see what was going on. Pathfinder considers humanoids with class levels to be one lower CR than in 3.5. An elf War1 would be a CR 1/3, and an elf Ftr1 would be a CR 1/2 in Pathfinder. So the encounters ought at least have one additional enemy to keep them at the same challenge.
