Tarsh - Kelandor's Gold |
Lead | |
|
I miss the boat regular dont I? I have had an old copy of Search for Kelandor's Gold for a while and thought I would dust it off and do something with it.
I located it in the Wilderlands on WoHF boxed set, map 6. So months later I am making adjustments to Bard's Gate to use as Tarsh when low and behold I
start recognizing NPC names from Kelandor's Gold. So I get both out and start comparing. Seems like the boxed set has borrowed the NPC's from the old
mod. Was that on purpose? I hear there were plans for Goodman Games to do an udpate of 3.5 for Search for Kelandor's Gold and that Mr. Bledsaw was
allowing the use of those NPC' s into Tarsh to sew the two together. Was that the plan? They fit so nicely together. What an awsome idea and what a gem
this module is. I smell megedungeon here. I alos see the sequals never made it to print. I discovered this too late. Anyone have more info on this or know
where previously unrelated mods have been squeezed in?

I have the same understanding. I think this may have been discussed in an old thread.

I did some seraching and it seems that Kara Geilman, the author's wife posted some info that Goodman Games had plans to publish or re-publish a revised
SfKG that was to include the yet un-published Land of 1000 Doors, and that they would be in one book together. Doh.....this would have been a really cool
mega-dungeon. I realy like the Tarsh-tie-in. How much does it differ from the original Wilderlands?

Loa1000D was briefly released as a PDF back in the days of the JG club on Yahoo! (prior to the eGroups merger, I think). I can't remember how long it was
available (wasn't long), but it was removed when JG revival whispers first started with the plan to do the double release with Kelander.

I'm not exactly sure how frequently Greg lurks around here, but I went ahead and emailed him a link to this thread so he can add in his own 2 copper's
worth.
As of the last I heard, though, there are no planned additional Judges Guild releases through Goodman Games in partnership with Eostros Games (Greg, Kara, et al) due to some misunderstandings that have as of yet to be resolved. So far the only thing that has been done in conjunction with Goodman Games was to correct the majority of the errors in the three modules that have already been released and new copies of the pdfs placed out on the various retail sites for sale. A few minor errors may have slipped through the last round of editing, but so far as I know there will not be any more updates to these releases. In a way, I wish that development would be allowed to continue as I had started preparing approximately half a dozen different items for potential updating and release, and I believe some of the others involved had also started on some things that they were eager to see submitted for release. Oh well ... maybe one of these days ...

Yes, the author lurks here from time to time and I would be happy to answer any questions I can answer. Unfortunatly, I cannot release the pdf of Land of a
1000 Doors at present with JG's name in it due to IP restrictions. The Tarsh tie in was well coordinated with Bob Sr. at the time of the Wilderlands Boxed
set and was in fact at his request. Not only Tarsh, but the villages are on the map in the SE of the map. I can also look up the location for Kelandors Gold
and for Keldar, the site of the sequel. Kelandors Gold rewrite was at one time next on the list for Goodman, but has been but on hold with 4E coming out and
other factors. You didn't miss the boat, I ain't dead yet

Oh Dude........must have all this information...
So what hex is the castle in? And the villages, do you mean the villages in the map in the module? If so I suspect the names in the wilderlands remained the same? So is there a conversion name list for villages? Or were they used in the boxed set? Doh.....I did not bring the boxed set to work this morning. Feed me more. I am really lov'n this module. Have you given Pathfinder any thought here? They are allowing 3pp's with an OGL. This could be expande upon and I think there is a market.....at least I want it. Oh....do you hope to develop Tarsh and/or have an agreement with Bob Jr. to do so? And....what do you think of using Bard's Gate for Tarsh, inserting
the wilderlands NPC's? Seeing as how you designed so much of it?

Oh....do you hope to develop Tarsh and/or have an agreement with Bob Jr. to do so?
The emphasis above is mine ... and if necessary Greg can add or correct what I am about to say. When Bob Jr assumed control of Judges Guild, all agreements with Eostros Games (read Greg & Kara) were terminated post haste, and as far as I understand it there is a permanent ban on Eostros Games doing any more work in conjunction with Judges Guild. So far as I am aware, Bob Jr and Greg are not on speaking terms at present, and the reasons behind the falling out have been requested to remain private by both parties involved. Unless something changes drastically, I sincerely doubt that any of the material that was prepared by any of the individuals involved with the Eostros Games/Judges Guild partnership in the past that has not been relesed to date will never see the light of day under the Judges Guild banner.

Crud......
...cant we all just get along? What are the chances of doing it under some other banner? Or is this about JG ownership? Things seem to me, to move very slowly out of JG or not at all. Clark isnt doing anything else with JG either. I am sure it is not related, but I thought there was a following with the Wilderlands. Gosh-darn-it! Tegel has been put on eternal hold and now this. Ok, so can we expect other tid-bits from Greg and Kara or is it all tied to JG? |

Ok, so can we expect other tidbits from Greg and Kara or is it all tied to JG?
At one point there was some talk of doing something with their own home campaign setting along with the material that Greg and others had previously written for Judges Guild before Bob Sr's untimely demise, but thus far it has not gone anywhere that I am aware of. The major effort with bringing out any of this material would be removing all Judges Guild IP from said product along with the requisite playtesting, editing, etc before being released. As to the rest ... it all seems to be all tied up with Judges Guild currently and if Bob Jr is doing anything at the moment he is apparently keeping it to himself or only sharing with a very select inner circle of people. So far the only mention of anything that I have seen was on the Judges Guld dot Org site which mentioned something about material being released in the old Universal Format with the proverbial "coming soon" ... make of it what you will. Best bet ... if you wish to ask of Greg or Kara ... they have contact information on their website ... http://www.eostros.com/ Steve

WereSteve wrote: However, this may be true, but please understand that JG does not own copyright to any of the Kelandors Gold except the cover art, which has had many interesting comments in regards to Kirbye on the cover (like Luke, may the force be with you). Greg Geilman and Eostros Games retains copyright to Kelandors Gold and to the World of Eostros in which is was originally wrote, including all original placenames, NPC's and the like. As for the information provided in the box set for the tie in, the names are slightly different for this reason and JG retains copyright on that material for that product. There is no conversion list, but if you would like to format one and email it to ggeilman@eostros.com , I am certain we could fill in the blanks for you. Eostros is the name of the plane/planet in which Kelandors was originally wrote and it is a medieval greek empire based world, Rome never gained dominance and the greek city states grew into kingdoms to form a loose coalition empire. The kingdom of Palos is where Luddville is placed and the Castle. There are two other continents in this world, and several other maps unpublished. Our plan eventually is to publish the entire campaign under Eostros Games when we get the opportunity, it will not be with Judges Guild, but it could be with our host hear or Goodman. Time will tell. Thank you. I have really enjoyed learning more. I am almost ready to use this in my campaign. I am interested in anything you may publish in the future, so
keep us all tuned into what is going on. I have been going through the boxed set and matching up all of the NPC's. Its been like an Easter egg hunt for
me. Kind of fun. So, in what hex did the collaboration place the castle in? Or does anyone out there have sowm suggestions?

Snoring Rock Quote: what do you think of using Bard's Gate for Tarsh, inserting the wilderlands NPC's? Seeing as how you designed so much of it?
I can tell you what I think of it, too big of a city state to fit the feel of Tarsh, yes the landscape works to some degree, but when we were designing it, Tarsh was a newly awakening city state rising from the ashes of a once great city with long lived rangers of the North (think tokien) in control of the city. Much of the city outside the walls was in ruin and served as slums for beggars and vermin. Inside the walls, the city was reconstituting, but large sections of the city were abandoned still and off limits to people on the other side of the river, the only place accross the river that was habbital was the nobles quarters and temples. On the south side of the city was the government, business, and commons. If you look at a map of Luddville (Ludding), I believe you will see about the livable size of the city, Small City State. I have visited your website several times. I sure hope you get the chance to publish the material. I am a fan already. Yeah, Bard's Gate is a bit big. But if I were to make a portion of it ruins and reduce the population by about 10,000 it might work. I have read the entire module and every tid bit off the threads here. I have also compared the work in the revised NG Wilderlands and putting it all together into the litte kingdom is all coming together. I have even found a good location for the castle that I like. But you are right, Bards Gate is a bit big. I am paring it down and making an entird side of the river ruins. Thanks!! |

Please understand that JG does not own copyright to any of the Kelandors Gold except the cover art, which has had many
interesting comments in regards to Kirbye on the cover (like Luke, may the force be with you).
This I know Kara ... I was mostly referring to what I had been working on with regards to all of the material that I have OCR'd over the years. Most of which involved creating new material and/or expanding upon existing material. While it is most likely that the Judges Guild material that I expanded upon cannot be published due to the IP that it contains, hopefully the new material not based on previously existing Judges Guild IP can be updated to allow it to one day be released. Of course this remains to be seen ...

Snoring Rock wrote: email me offline and I will dig into the maps and email it to you, kgeilman@eostros.com Also, Acre' Opposum (Hex 0108, Map 3) is a very important Keep and Rose and Paul are best friends with Voltar, Alexiev and Kirbye. Josh is a Ward of Rose (like another son) and is a guardian of the keep. Josh Rides a Pegasus which was a gift from Athena. Olga is a Skandik with a very thick skandiavian accent and lives in the temple of Thor tending to the warriors that arrive in need of her services. There is a large Shrine to Athena also on the grounds. Rose is building a temple to Athena (a collossus) in Tarsh/Luddville. Rose wields a Holy Avenger longsword of Elven craftmanship, its intelligent and has cleric healing powers, made of glass steele, +4 Full Plate, and a +2 Shield. Josh wields a Holy Avenger Great sword and wears +3 Elven Plate (Mithril Plate, Dex 16). (Tarsh, Hex 0206) Voltar is a Stoic yet active party animal priest whos Half Brother is Alexiev. Alexiev is half hill giant and is the Governor General of Tarsh/Luddville and the Kingdom of Palos. The Red Dragon Inn is Run By Kirbye and Kirbye is married to Angelina Anapolis, Voltars Cleric under study. The Red Dragon is a bar, strip club, pipe den, and brothel. Paulus, Alexiev and Voltar like to hang out at the Red Dragon with Kirbye. Kirbye is also a cohort of Voltar. Both Angelina and Rose hang out together but Rose is a very moralistic paladin who enjoys social gatherings with the elite and upper crust, is opposed to many of Pauls amoral antics. Rose is constantly threating Paul with a frying pan over the head for staying out all night and not returning to the keep. He swears he never sleeps with any of the girls at the club and thinks its ok to party as long as he is faithful (Men!! He is suppose to be a paladin). Angelina is on the other hand very carefree, quite unintellectual, but fun at a party (Airhead). She makes decisions based on her whims but is very wise in addition to being charismatic when need be (think head of Tri Delta Sorority). The temple of Apollo is across the street from the Red Dragon and sponsors greek orgy's at times and has a skybridge built between the two buildings for easy access. The Temple has the circular sanctuary building surrounding a large open garden in a triangular shape, with the Hi Priest conclave in the center of the garden. Kirby also has a import/export company that serves as a front for the thieves guild out back in a secret room, basically a pawn shop. Karl Glittergold can be found at times in town. Marvin works at the magic shop with Kaltodar as he is very old, Marvin is set to inherit the shop. Marvin likes to collect magic swords. He currently has one that is a +2 CN Intelligent Mage slayer that Angelina was forced to give him. The Tenifel Tarsh Rangers are in charge of patrolling the outlands of Tarsh and keeping the Orcs and Goblins cleared of the roads. The army tends to the protection of the cities. Ardontis is very pompus and has a british accent and looks like Robin Hood (Erol Flynn version). Lord Hermes is playing host to Lord Kelandor IX without knowing his evil schemes. Though Paul is not officially a member of the Army, as a Paladin of Thor, he accompanies Alexiev quite often and has taken command of the army on occasion, He carry's the complementary title of General. Normally he is only in charge of the reserves. Neil is a Half-Elf Cleric/Wiz who is part of the unholy trio, he often accompanies Harmeggedo and Utak as they help Paul. Think of the unholy trio as the 3 stooges. Har is Acetic Jewish, Neil is a drunk, Utak is flaming. Yes, there is a lot of drugs, sex and rock n roll involve here. Just to let you know, there was a lot of things changed in the published version, compared to the manuscript, so I am not surprised the map got left out. Grusome Square (Hex 2005) is a very important village also to the adventure, they are found wandering in Kelandors dungeon. Dax's belt of giant strength is Giant sized so Dax uses suspenders to hold it up and it has a on off position on the buckle, when active, Dax becomes giant sized. He got it with a wish spell he found on a scroll. Troy is an Assasin5/Rog4/Pal7 at this point, but she is an Assasin due to a curse. She is actually the daughter of some very influential people. She did not fall by choice. Greg knows her complete motivation, but she loves to dog parties in the dungeon. Dome (Dorne) (Hex 1808): This is a good spot to place Kelandors castle. Put it just outside of town to the north near the river in 1807 or 1708, as the castle is tended by Gnomes and is built on top of a Mine. Hex 4826, Keldar/Polimeros Keep is the spot for Land of 1000 Doors. Lord Balfour is a Bandit Lord and has built a little thiefdom in the oasis. There is a fortune teller there, but she is actually Petrarch the Lich from Kelandors Gold in disguise. Charte is the name substituted for the Lich who is 30th level. Petrarch's companion is actually a Death Knight. Underground the lich has built quite a small dungeon under a buried castle on the oasis. An orb of weather control is in his possession and used to bring on sand storms during bandit raids of the surrounding areas to cloak the bandits. The lich is trying to perfect time travel and weather control and uses the thieves to keep everyone away. This land was once a green and lush plain. It now resembles the gobi desert.
