As you can tell, LAW is pretty bare-bones. No darkvision rules as such, that is left up to the judge. I usually give characters of different races abilities similar to their D&D counterparts, so orcs do have superior vision in the dark.

However, given the depth of the darkness here, even Cheyne's powerful senses pick out little more. You are sure it is the form of a man, bathed in the faint green glow, which seems to emanate from him. He is standing still, evidently on a level lower than you, perhaps on the floor of this space.

He can make out a little more detail on the column. There is definitely a walkway originating there and heading of into the darkness, the same height you are now, about 40 feet away. Perhaps at one time the walkway connected this doorway with the column, but it is long gone if so. The column stretches down and above your perception.

More or less 40 feet; since the column is at the edge of the illumination, you guess it to be about 40' from you.

No chance of that amigo! I will answer some specifics, but not all as you simply wouldn't know. But I do want to paint as clear a picture as possible...
How far down below the deck are we now, more or less? 10'? 15'?
Going by the stairs you came down originally, about 15'.
How far are we from the stern of the ship at this point (were we going towards the stern)?
You are certain you are near the stern.
What were the rough dimensions of the ship? 30' by 100'? 50' by 150'? SOmething else?
I had originally described the ship as about a bowshot in length, to stay abstract and not worry about detailed measurements. Let's say it is about 250 yards long, about 40 wide.
Regarding the room itself...

How high could the ceiling be? 10'? 15'?
If you did not descend as you made your way toward the stern, it should be around 15 feet above you - which means it should be illuminated by your torch. But you cannot see it.
Are the 4 gleams direct sunlight poking through the deck? Or are they some other source of illumination? Are they illuminating or just dots of light?
They are pale dots of light, symmetrically spaced above you on what may be the ceiling. Sunlight or other form of light, you cannot tell - but if sunlight, you might expect it to be stronger.
How big is the pillar? How far off? metal?
A bit wider than a man. about 40 feet. Metal, judging by its gleam, but you are not sure from here.
How wide/long is the plank? 3'x30'? 5'x15'? wood? metal?
About three feet wide. You have no idea how long it is - it begins at the pillar, and goes off into the darkness, in roughly the same direction you have been heading (toward the stern). Perhaps metal.
How far down is the green corpse? How far away? Is the corpse buries in phosphorescent algae or some other light-emitting organic substance? Or is it just green colored without illumination? If so, how can we actually see it? the torch?
The "corpse" is standing upright. It seems to give off its own faint, green illumination. The torch does not reach that far, so that is how you surmise the light is emanating from it. You cannot tell what causes the glow. He is about 50 yards down and to the right from you - so it is apparent there is no floor between you.
What sources of illumination are there in this room aside from the torch? The corpse? the gleams? or none?
No other lights that you see in the space.

No problem. I'll try to be as clear as I can, but I don't mind going over it.

I know this room is a bit confusing - if you guys want, I will try to mock up a sketch, scan and post it. But basically, you feel as if you are looking out into a void, with a column at the edge of your torchlight, with four lights an indeterminite distance above and away from you, and the glowing outline of a standing man below and away to the right a bit. All else is blackness.
