I mentioned it in another thread but thought it deserved it own post. Starting July 2 all prices for subscriptions will be going up.

New pricing for D&D Insider beginning July 2:
$9.95 for 1 month
$23.85 for 3 months (save 20%)
$71.40 for an annual subscription (save 40%)

I am sure they have their reasons (of which greed comes to my mind) but with the economy the way it is the timing sure sucks.

Reading other boards, people that use it seem to feel it's worth the new prices.

It won't stop me from subscribing. I especially like the character generator. I also enjoy the Dragon and Dungeon article. So yes it is still worth the money in my opinion.

I still haven't signed up, and probably won't until the online gametable is up and running.

I do have to agree with Nym that the Character Builder is good stuff (probably the first time I've ever referred to a WotC computer program as "good stuff"). And its tough to make a chargen prgram that stands out in such a huge crowd, but this one does.

Yes I think that is right. I had forgotten about that. So when I reread the article (instead of skimming it) I noticed the wording was "end of introductory pricing". So I guess it is just going up to the planned rate. Still sucks the price went up though.

The character creator and the compendium don't seem all that great, so that makes them icing rather than cake. I notice the 3d online play Dungeon builder and the the Character Visualizer thing are no longer mentioned in the tools section. That means that Insider is at it's heart basically two magazine subscriptions delivered in PDF form. So $72 a year is like two magazines for $36 each a year or $3 an issue. It seems reasonably fair given that the product is over 1000 pages and has full color artwork. I like the mini adventures and critters and ideas myself.

But on the other hand the annual subscription is not really priced for an impulse buy especially in the current econonomy. Of course one's confidence in whether Hasbro will want to keep this UP on a yearly basis is another matter. They already seem to have abandoned or at least tabled several promised features.

I wouldn't mind so much if they ever freaking delivered the online gametable they promised before launch before jacking up the rates ("end of introductory pricing" my butt, how about an "end of introductory features").
