Re: 5E on anyone's radar? (reply)
I do like how they've removed prestige classes and switched to archetypes/class features. I think prestige classes were a neat idea, but the execution of them was poor in 3.x. (They actually work better as NPC classes in 3.x/Pathfinder.)

Classes I want to play NOW:Rogue/AssassinRogue/Arcane TricksterWizard/DivinerMan, they did a great job with these, perfect combination of flavor and mechanical utility.

I was really "meh" during the playtests as well -- particularly didn't like the advantage/disadvantage system. But it seems to play well. Looking forward to more releases!

Re: 5E on anyone's radar? (reply)
It's almost like Mearls & co. set out to make an edition geared towards making me eat my words. Felt "meh" during playtests - ordered all the core books and the KQ adventures. Can't stand warlocks - that's my new character in the...

Re: 5E on anyone's radar? (reply)
I'm considering a house rule of recovering 1 HD per night instead if all of them, but since I haven't actually run a campaign yet, will see how the RAW goes first. I really like the rogue in this edition - damn hard to pick between 3...

Re: 5E on anyone's radar? (reply)
Yeah, I'm not a fan of "powers" that one should be able to attempt at anytime being limited.  (The same thing annoys me in 3.x with feats that I think every character should be able to do without the feat.) As I'm reading through it, the...

Re: 5E on anyone's radar? (reply)
I was lukewarm towards 5e during the playtests, but I'm more favorable now. Feats are a lot better, as getting rid of feat chains makes things a lot better. I tend to identify as a simulationist, but it's more wanting to see everything...

Re: 5E on anyone's radar? (reply)
Thanks, DaveMage! Yeah, I really dig 5e. And I skipped 4e. 5e just feels a lot closer to the DNA of the game while being much simpler than 3.x -- simple yet elegant rules.

Re: 5E on anyone's radar? (reply)
I can tell that they are trying to stretch the so-called "sweet spot" over all 20 levels, as they tried to do with 4e (although there is a definite spike at Level 20 for some classes). I'm reading more carefully through the Player's...

Re: 5E on anyone's radar? (reply)
D&D 'jumped the shark' for me back at 3.5. The game became too complex for this DM once the PCs got to 7th and 8th level. I've moved to Castles & Crusades and am quite content. I have been dabbling in the DCC-RPG from Goodman...

Re: 5E on anyone's radar? (reply)
Yeah, I love all that stuff. Not surprisingly I have a bunch of simulationist friends who prefer Pathfinder but 5e is basically just what I've been wanting.

Re: 5E on anyone's radar? (reply)
I keep noticing little things that have been streamlined that have a surprisingly big impact. Opportunity attacks (my least favorite part of standard d20) are basically only triggered by running away from an enemy without disengaging....

Re: 5E on anyone's radar? (reply)
I really dig 5e. I'm running it now. I really like the whole backgrounds/traits/bond... thing and the inspiration system that goes with it. I still don't like the math on the advantage/disadvantage system (if you need a 20 and have...

Re: 5E on anyone's radar? (reply)
I skimmed through the 5E player's handbook last night because I had liked a lot of what I was reading/hearing about it. But after reading through it, it didn't really wow me like I thought it might. As a whole, it was a bit of a...

I dled the pdf and bought the starter set. Like the rest of you (mostly!), I was fairly impressed. If I weren't already involved in running a campaign, I'd think about picking it up. There are some things I don't like - the insta-heal,...
