Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. Benjamin Franklin For MSG - I am sure you can teach a monkey to scratch his butt, just tell him to watch you. After a couple of hours he should be a master at it.

Posts: 3178 (07/04/09 03:54:31) Dark Walker of the Planes Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Well, I love planar stuff, but I was really disappointed in the planar handbook. Like a lot of the 3.5 era stuff, I found it overall to be rather uninspired. It is a pc focused book first and foremost. The new races mostly (IMO, of course) suck -- a few are just watered down versions of existing creatures to lower/eliminate the racial ECL -- for example there's the "spiker" instead of the bladeling, and "mephlings" instead of mephits. Some of the new monsters are pretty decent. The section I like the most is that on "planar touchstones" -- sites that if you visit you get powers. I don't care for the power bit, but some of the sites are interesting and I'll probably use them as locations at some point. Oh, the other part that I like is that it provides guidelines for using some monsters as pcs such as the hound archon and kyton devil. It uses the format of breaking down their ECLs into class levels so that you can play a hound archon as a 1st level character, for example. But overall not a book that I am at all impressed with.

I would have loved to have picked up some of the Dark Sword miniatures but man, they was gone quick. Same for the Wargods line that has the Weingido. Sheesh! There are some things in it I do like and use such as the variant class abilities for planar gaming. But generally, I find a lot of the new stuff sort of "meh" that I could do without, like the prestige classes. The spells are useful updates of the prior material, but it's all the Spell Compendium. If you planar game, it might be worth it. But in general, pass-upable. --- (This space for rent)
