I bought a new record player last week, a Technics from 1978 in most excellent shape.
So this means of course that I'm listening through my old vinyl collection again. Right now it's Johnny Winter's Guitarslinger playing. |

Prince "Lotusflower". It's still in my cd player from when I put it in like a month ago. The more I listen to it, the more I like it.
It's Prince does Hendrix, and he totally nails it. Definitely his most rock album -- at least from the ones that I've heard. There's just a
couple songs that don't fit in with the rest that prevent it from being a true masterpiece.

Metallica "Death Magnetic". I picked this up about a month or so again and I've finally gotten around to putting it in the player. So far I
like it quite a bit. The guitars don't seem as complex as in their older stuff, though. But I dig that it's pretty heavy. I'm only on the second
song so far. Here's hoping that the rest will be as good.
I'm almost caught up on listening to my recent cd purchases. |

Been listening to a lot of Silversun Pickups lately. First heard them a couple years ago, but couldn't get past the
singer dude's very androgynous voice. Now, though, after some steady rotation on my music playlists, I find it really suits the songs. They're one of
my fav newer bands, actually. Plus the chick Nikki who plays the bass is so tall, geeky looking and awkward I find her hot!

Heartless Bastards - The Mountain
I really dig this album. Erika Wennerstrom's voice is fantastic, and very similar to that of the late folk and country singer Karen Dalton - it's truly amazing. |

Inxs Guns in the Sky off of the old Kick. Still a great CD. Too bad that lead singer was such a dumb bastard eh?

KISS can still get it done.
Right now it is Horseshoes and Hand Grenades by Chris Mars, the drummer for the Replacements. Old album from '92 or so, has a strong Replacements feel. Lyrics are pretty good, singing about Apple Jacks and Soupy Sales brings a smile. Which reminds me - Soupy Sales' sons played with David Bowie in Tin Machine. They were the rhythm section, as I recall. That group got panned pretty hard, but I liked a lot of their songs, and it was cool direction for the time, with Bowie breaking out of the pop-machine manacles he had created.

Sigur Ros "( )". This is my first listen to it, though I picked it up a couple months ago. So far very nice, and it fits the mood of the day
(cloudy and cool here in West Michigan, right now only 70 F).
I am getting ever closer to getting caught up on my backlog of music. |

Metallica "Death Magnetic." Wow! This is the best album they've put out since the "Black Album." Really, really good.
I never bothered to pick up their last couple cds (St. Anger and the other one Monster?), were they good or not so much? |

Wasn't too crazy about St. Anger but Some Kind of Monster is mainly live stuff.
