Really looking forward to the druid preview next week. Pathfinder RPG subscription ordered. I hope we eventually seem some new Necro goodies to use with this. Least no one I can recall ever playing one in the many years I have played. Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. It made much of bards running out of bardic music/day, and outside of first or second level, I don't think I've EVER seen this happen. Changing it to a total number of rounds per day is actually a significant weakening of the bard, since per 3e, a bard could effectively stroll around for hours maintaining a single performance (though most DMs house rule against that getting out of hand). I like some of the skill perks and bonuses, though the thing with certain perform types substituting for other skills, while nice, seems a bit arbitrary to me. How does knowing how to play the flute make one a better diplomat, for example? It sounds like there are a lot of perks, but that limitation on number of rounds per day for bardic music is a pretty big handicap. Jury's still out on whether it's an overall improvement, degradation, or simple alteration of how the bard works. BTW in 3.5, bards can be pretty nice, particularly if you allow access to feats and spells from the non-core WOTC books (like Spell Compendium and Complete Adventurer). Not only does it weaken the Bard, but it creates more bookkeeping. This however looks like a real boost: "Regardless of the action needed to start a performance, maintaining a performance is a free action, meaning that the bard can keep up a performance and still cast spells, move, and make attacks." If a bard can cast spells and not break the performance, presumably s/he could engage in other verbal activities, either comunicating with other characters or using skills against NPCs. I hope that gets better explanation. Games I am...
