I gotta say this. It's not necessarily that WotC "owes" us or the publishers of 3pp materials anything.
However, they were supposed to have a GSL (the first one) done MUCH earlier than they did. Then, they were supposed to have a revised one MUCH earlier than they did.
They frequently gave hard dates and deadlines as well as softer "by Chrismas 2008, only two pages left". They failed, quite regularly to get it out in a timely manner.
End result is that Clarke, someone who REALLY wanted to publish for 4e got frozen out when the market for 3pps dried up. Goodman, by his statements, is going strong. Is this because his company is "better" or his product is "better"? Hardly. It's because of the timing...the timing which was directly the result of WotC's actions.
For that (WotC saying they'd do something and then repeatedly failing to do so for such a long time that it killed the prospects of ANY 3pp), I don't think it is fair to say that complaining is from a sense of (undeserved) entitlement.
Sometimes, when you are promised something, you are entitled to get it...and you are justifiably angry when you don't.
