Although I was never a true fan of his writings, the Belgariad was a great saga and I very much enjoyed to read it back then.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Eddings.

Oh man! All the great ones are passing on. I discovered a gem entitled Pawn of prophecy in the early 80's and was hooked. I really didn't care for the
last series after Redemption of Althalus and thought The Tamuli was a little long. Still, he gave me many hours of pleasure. One of the few writers I re-read
on a regular basis.
I will miss him. He started his writing carreer pretty late so his works are few.

Thank you for Silk and Sparhawk.
Heck, I didn't even know his wife had died until I heard about his death. Very sad, indeed. RIP. |

I haven't read any of his books in years but I did enjoy them in the first few.

I loved the Belgariad and the Mallorean.
I liked the seperate books on Polgara and Belgareth. I loathed Athalus and I gave up on the Tamuli.
I think you're pretty tough don't I

It's always a shame when an artist dies, that our world will no longer be enriched by any more of their creations.
I've only read his last series, the Elder Gods. The first book was really good, the second and third were uneven, and the final book (and unfortunately, likely Eddings' last work) was pretty much crap. What series/books of his do folks consider to be his best work? |

The Belgariad and Mallorean series (available in 2 volume omnibus editions now) then Belgarath the Sorcerer, Polgara the Sorceress and if you're interested
in a treatise on world-building also pick up "Rivan Codex" which are all of his notes on creating the world the previous books were set in along with
explanatory notes and suggestions for aspiring writers.
I never much cared for his works outside of the books I mentioned above and I re-read them religiously every 2 years. They were basically an exercise in epic storytelling and I still love them dearly. Blessings to you, Mr. Eddings. Thank you for sharing your world with us.
. . . and behind them came a fifth rider on a pony, Pale Writer: Scribe of the Apocalypse.

I took the fantasy writer test last
week or so, and turned up as Eddings. Thanks Dave, you'll be missed. Like others, I had no idea his wife (and co-author on many works) had passed away.
RIP.
