Has WOTC made ANOTHER boneheaded business decision? |

Haven't heard much beyond the DDI price increase. Don't know enough about it to say if it qualifies as boneheaded or not.

I haven't had any issues until a few days ago, now I can barely get on.
Of course my title was a bit sarcastic, but that seems to be the problem nine times out of ten with EnWorld. The last time I had major time-out issues was when the PFD fiasco surfaced. As for the DDI price increase- it doesn't seem bad to me- $1 extra per month if doing a yearly sub. I cannot imagine people are really balking at that. I personally won't sub until the VTT shows- which I suspect means "never". The digital magazine freebies just didn't cut it for me- Dungeon was still throwing out a bunch of mediocre at best adventures and Dragon content I'd actually use was sparse. I think they could learn a thing or two from Knockspell & Fight On, but I guess most 4E (and 3E) gamers like crunchy power up stuff

I wouldn't be surprised if the VTT is not even permitted based on their contract with Atari (or whoever it is now). It's my understanding that the
contract provides an exclusive license for electronic D&D-related interactive games. Using the VTT is definitely an interactive game
experience (even though some of the "game" elements are supplied by the GM). Of course, there could be a provision in the contract that allows for
the VTT specifically, but it wouldn't surprise me if they missed that.

I don't need a VTT, I am too happy with the freebies Maptools and SKYPE to actually pay for something. All the benefits I would get will likely be for 4E
almost exclusively, annd since I don't play that either.... Yeah, I'll never be subscribing to their DDI.

ENWorld is giving me big problems today too. Maybe there is a big fight over the release of Hommlet in 4E that finally broke loose and is overwhelming their
server capacity?

If they honestly didn't consider the 'interactive game' situation, then EVERYONE there should be fired. Because this is a large part of what they
loused up with Etools - - they had all these grand plans and announcements about what would be coming, and then they remembered (or were reminded) that they
could only get so close to a computerized 'interactive game'. If they didn't already buy the ability to do this, or if they didn't have their
lawyers determine a way to get around it..then they're foolish.

I use the character generator a lot and Dungeon is well worth it just for the maps. Dragon has been VERY hit or miss for me. The article on Assassins and
Gladiators? Thumbs up. The lack of Dragon's Bestiary, Ecology, Bizare of the Baazar, etc... on a regular basis? Thumbs down.

I tried about eight hours ago, and then just now and all I'm getting is a Network error.
I don't think we can blame Wizards this time, though...

Just to be clear, I'm not definitively saying that the VTT is against their contract with Atari (or whoever), just that it could be an issue. For
some reason they haven't shared the contract with me.
At to EN World - I was able to get on for about 10 minutes at around 9:40 last night, but then it crapped out again. |

Well ENworld is up right now but on the front page and every link all you get is this.
Closed briefly for maintenance. Back shortly! Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
