Ood the Odd, 11th level VOP monk
Rose, 11th level Cleric of Illmater (highest ranking in all of Ptolus for her religion)
and Joaquin (no next of kin were ever known of the rogue, now deceased)
The party had to regroup after the first assault on the temple. Nadroj and three spectres (formerly paladins), two vrocks (one summoned), Zehn and his 17 priests, and six ogres who fled the initial contact with the adventuring party, The Liberators laid three of the heroes low the initial time. Joaquim was the only one to not be truly resurrected, as his corpse was given a death knell from his murderer.
The second assault happened three weeks later, this time, only four ogres, fourteen priests, Zehn himself, a vrock (soon to be joined by another), were available to defend the temple from The Liberators. On the second melee, Zehn teleported Willie to the side of the lava pool without checking where Willie would land (luck roll). Willie lost much of his epidermis to the lava for two whole rounds.
The vrock and a nameless sorceror gave Willie grief on his exit, while the second vrock joined the melee at the temple entrance. The clerics were having difficulty overcoming the Monks Spell Resistance, and found it easier to just let him take out one of them per round while they pounded on Rose and the sorceror.
Willie smited the sorceror, liberating his ally's Staff of Power (which all were suffering a curse for acquiring in the first place). The vrock and him traded punches and each was mortally wounded by the other.
On the other end of the cavern, Rose was harassed by Nadroj and unable to turn him. Gareth was cut down (again, second time in this location) and Ood ended up in a tumbling charge against most of his foes, getting around their weapons again.
It was a long hard slog, Willie stabilized himself without aid (much to his annoyance, its better to have hitpoints).
Gareth was brought back from negative hitpoints.
Rose was able to beat the spectre off and then finally turned him. She restored Gareth then assisted the fight against the low level mooks.
Gareth obliterated the remaining followers in a fireball, overcoming Zehn's spell resistance (gave him a ring of it since the party had it half way around the table). He fled to the opposite end of the temple only as Willie had downed his second CLW potion. Willie stood up and faced off against the priest.
Willie stood after it was over.
Dangit. I had 3 out of 4 of them in the negatives for part of the fight. I have nobody else to blame but myself, as I incorporated some HM4 rules into the game (percentage stat boosting) and did a reasonable job with being a challenge to the party. Unfortunately for the summoned vrock, he was the only one that landed great blows on the monk. Dang!
Next stop, level 5.
