I thought last night was going to be a bust: my wife (who plays the best Rogue, ever) went down with a migraine, and we were having difficulty making our oldest child (2 and a bit) eat anything. His younger brother was tucking into pizza with gusto (most people have cheese) and tearing the place up not ideal when theres a game session scheduled for that evening.
In the end, my wife went to bed, and I got both children fed and ready for sleep, with the eldest heading for his bed just as the players turned up. Whilst I had to run up and downstairs to give the youngest some TLC and lidocaine because of his teething, and make drinks for the players, most of them finish levelling up.
So, we have in the party:
Aramil (played by Adam) Wild Elf Barbarian 10/ Pious Templar 4
Drakhus (played by Andy) Dwarf Wizard (Conjuration Specialist) 5/ Summoner PrC 9
Gaspode (played by Mrs meomwt) Human Rogue 14
Lance Vulcan (played by Frendy) Human Favoured Soul 13
Sil-Riak (played by Kevin, AWOL last session) Human Cleric of Pelor 14
Tanzee (played by Nicola, Adams G/F) Human Fighter 12
Party CR = 14.8
Tanzee joined with the party after they rescued her from a Bone Naga and its ghoulish minions in the undead-infested fortress of Shadow Tor.
Having cleared out Shadow Tor (and robbed all the lichs best stuff, something hes going to be mighty sore about when he re-forms), they Teleport back to The Grey Citadel and sort out their loot list. Most of them need a week downtime to read various Tomes and Librams discovered in Shadow Tor. They sell some stuff, and give Elinda Bannon a Golem Manual (which has her rubbing her hands Image ) and the Lichs magical Laboratory Contents. In return, she agrees to enchant Aramils new axe (Adamantine, rolled 12 given a 20% chance of finding one) and Lances longsword (and shell return other favours as well).
After the downtime, they Teleport back to Traft and head out overland to the Tower of Jhedophar. They are looking for Kurais legendary sword (Blackrazor) and for a way to close the Rift to the Negative Plane they uncovered in Shadow Tor (a Paladins Ghost told them that Jhedophar might have the knowledge they seek).
Jhedophar is a week out of Traft, with part of the trip over the Sepia Uplands, but they get there without any problems.
The Tower looms above them. Drakhus makes a Stonecunning Check (thats my 2E grognard coming out Image ) to determine what it is built from granite, enchanted so that the surface is as slippery as soapstone. They walk the circumference of the Labyrinth, looking for an alternative way in (I gave them a DC35 Spot check to notice the sulphurous smells coming out of Exeteruss lair, but they all failed), all they could find were the Main Doors.
Determining that they were Arcane Locked, they discussed the best way to overcome things. Lance cast a Dispel Magic which failed, so Sil-Riak cast a Greater Dispel Magic which hit the DC on the button. Gaspode checked the door for traps before picking the lock and getting the door open.
Aramil ventured inside and told everyone about the silver squiggles on the wall. Tanzee entered and read the warning message from Jhedophar which no one heeded and they all entered. With a clang, the Wall of Iron dropped into place across the portal, and they were trapped in the labyrinth.
At this point, my wife came downstairs and helped Andy run Gaspode to great effect, as you will see.
Gaspode scouted left, to Area L-14 (Gargoyles Lair), using his Ring of Invisibility to remain unseen. He trotted back to the others, telling them about the Gargoyle statues hed seen (theyve come across Gargoyles before). The spell-slingers had a chat about whether they could use various Stone Shape or Rock to Mud spells, before deciding to just wade in with weapons.
Aramil attacked the Margoyle, wounding it. Tanzee went for one of the Gargoyles, and knocked it down to one-third hp. Lance cast Flame Strike on two of the Gargoyles and they melted in the extreme heat. The Margoyle scratched Aramil, and two Gargoyles flew in to attack him, inflicing slight wounds only. Two more went for Lance, but couldnt hit him (AC 31), whilst another four tried to tear Tanzee apart.
Gaspode, still Invisible, Sneak Attacked the Margoyle with his bow, seriously harming it. He was now visible, but Drakhus cast a Greater Invisibilty spell on him.
Aramil now waded in to the Margoyle with increased purpose, and managed a Critical Hit for 142 points of damage Image . The Margoyle exploded in fragments! He then Cleaved into the two Gargoyles attacking him, dispatching them.
Tanzee hit the first injured Gargoyle and Cleaved into the next Critical, so kaboom. Great Cleave into a third, another Crit, another kaboom. Great Cleave into the last one attacking her, a third Crit and there were very few Gargoyles left, now. Image
Gaspode took down another with a well-placed sneak, Lance battered one with his sword and killed it, and the fighter types finished off the stragglers. Checking the room, they found an amphora of Adherer Oil, which the gargoyles hadnt had chance to use.
Again using the Ring of Invisibility, Gaspode scouted into L-12 (Lartugis Chamber). The halfling was trying to Hide in the shadows by the door, but Gaspodes Spot check was off the scale and so he spotted Lartugi. Sidling up to him, he asked What you doing here? Lartugi was surprised and asked who was there and what they wanted. Gaspode said they were looking for a sword and Lartugi replied that his employer, Exeterus, might be able to help.
This sounded like a threat to Gaspode (Mrs meomwt said after everyone had gone), so out came the bow and he Sneak Attacked Lartugi for about 30 points of damage. Ouch Image . Gaspode then sped back to the others, shouting for help. He dashed over the Pit Trap at L-13 as Tanzee and Aramil ran the other way and triggered it they both made their checks and their sheer speed carried them over the dropping floor. As they dashed into Lartugis room, he has drunk his Potion of Haste and is trying to Hide under his table

Things went a bit better in preparation last night. Andy, playing Drakhus, cried off late in the afternoon as he had work, otherwise we had a full house. Adam looked after Drakhus for the night.
Tanzee and Aramil ran into Lartugis lair, but he was well hidden under the table. As they looked around, he tried to hamstring Tanzee, but his short sword skittered over her plate armour. Now aware of his presence, the blood-thirsty pair cut him to ribbons.
Meantime, Lance used a Wall of Stone to cover the pit and allow the others to cross safely. Gaspode searched Lartugis room and discovered the loot hidden under the flagstone. He also retrieved the armour and magical sword.
The group then entered Exeterus lair. His mighty form loomed over them, with the smell of sulphur filling their nostrils. He challenged them to justify their presence, at which point Sil-Riak stepped forward and spoke as the partys leader. Exeterus dismissed Pelor as a false human god, angering Sil-Riak, but he kept his cool. They claimed to be looking for the sword Blackrazor, to use against Aurumvarnax and his undead army at Shadow Tor. Exeterus showed them the sword, with blade as black as night, pulling it telekinetically from a pile of coin. His price for giving them Blackrazor was to retrieve the Mandrake Staff from Jhedophar (the dragon claimed it was his). Exeterus gave them directions to Nazojs chamber where they could find the Wardstone. He allowed them to pass through his lair.
Gaspode sneaked up towards the Mohrg chamber. Cautiously opening the door, he spots the Mohrgs. They advance towards the open door, so Gaspode shuts it and heads back for help (this bit of the evening caused a bit of friction between some of the players, which might have repercussions dont ask Image ).
The meat shields entered the vivisection chamber and slew the undead nasties, with help from a sniping Gaspode and a Flame Strike from Lance. Searching around, they found a tome describing some of the experiments carried out which might be valuable to an anatomist.
Leaving the experimentation area, Gaspode scouted the corridor and disabled the scythe trap. They entered Nazojs Chamber, afeared at the demonic trappings adorning the walls. The demiurge appeared in front of them, checking his list before crumbling it and moving to attack.
Gaspode acted first, shooting it with arrows and managing to overcome the miss chance once. Aramil attacked, getting one hit through and doing some damage. Tanzee swung her sword, but failed to connect. Then it was Nazojs turn.
I allowed him his Transfixing Gaze as a free action. So, with Aramil having attacked, I let Nazoj Soul Touch him. Aramil failed his save (needed at least a 4, rolled a 1!) and died. Nazoj then applied Transfixing Gaze to Tanzee and she failed her save, so that she became paralysed.
The party were now visibly alarmed. Sil-Riak used the holy symbol on his armour to full effect and cast an excellent Turn on the demiurge, destroying it. The party were left with Aramils body and no means of raising him
Or so they thought. It transpired Drakhus could cast Limited Wish, and so used that to cast Reincarnate and raise Aramils soul from the grave (theres a separate issue here). Aramil was Reincarnated as a GOBLIN, carrying equipment which was too large

Thats awesome...
In one of my playtests the demiurg killed the cleric too. Luckily they had a scroll of resurrection and a rogue with a lot of use magical device ranks.
In another playtest at gorilla con it was one of those cheesepuff Mystic Theurge's that the demiurge had for lunch... tho he was raised by the cleric he ended up dead 2 more times so the party refused to raise him again. They figured he was such a holy man his god must want him really badly.

Lets recap the party composition after the Reincarnation:
Aramil (played by Adam) Female Goblin Barbarian 9/ Pious Templar 4
Drakhus (played by Andy) Dwarf Wizard (Conjuration Specialist) 5/ Summoner PrC 9
Gaspode (played by Mrs meomwt, not present in the session) Human Rogue 14
Lance Vulcan (played by Frendy) Human Favoured Soul 13
Sil-Riak (played by Kevin) Human Cleric of Pelor 14
Tanzee (played by Nicola, Adams G/F) Human Fighter 12
As a result of last weeks friction, Mrs meomwt sat out the session.
Drakhus used a Shrink Item spell to allow Aramil to use his axe. They went out into the area by the False Doors. Gaspode checked over the door, but failed to spot the magical trap. He used the Wardstone to open the door and peer in, this set off the magical trap and cost him 6 points of DEX. It also broke the Magic Circle Against Evil holding the demon in place. Seeing the abomination, Gaspode pelted back to the others and Lance burnt a spell to restore Gaspodes dexterity.
But the demon wanted blood, and followed them out of the room! Battle was joined. Aramil and Tanzee waded in with their weapons, whilst Drakhus took a moment to cast Greater Invisibility on Gaspode, who promptly went into Sneak Attack Machine Gun mode. And then, Drakhus cast a Quickened Haste on the party for good measure. Lance fired off a spell at the creature, which beat the creatures SR and hurt it.
Clytos the Demon decided to take lumps out of both Aramil and Lance, landing two blows each with his mighty axe, followed up by a stinger attack on both of them. Lance got hit and failed his FOR save, losing 5 points of CON (and a serious number of hp) in the process. Wisely, he backed away.
With Lance stepping back, Sil-Riak moved in to attack on the front line. Wisely, he had cast Neutralise Poison ahead of time. With Gaspode landing multiple Sneak Attacks and Aramil capable of significant damage (even as a Small creature), Clytos was taking damage even through his DR. He stepped back and Gated in three vrocks, placing them in front of the fighters and Sil-Riak to tie up the melee fighters. He then cast Mirror Image, and the party were confronted with a total of six of the creatures!
Whilst the front line were tied up with the vrocks, Gaspode continued to snipe. Drakhus Summoned two earth elementals, one at either end of the Demon Line, their job was to bash the images to show up the real one which they did in short order. Meantime, one of the Vrocks let out a screech which stopped Lance in his tracks.
Sil-Riak banished two of the Vrocks, whilst the third took some serious damage from Tanzee. Clytos, determined not to be flanked by the elementals, leaped over the front line and came down behind Tanzee, hitting her with his stinger (she passed on the Poison save). The last Vrock screeched and half the party were stunned. Aramil wasnt and went toe-to-toe with the demon. Clytos managed serious hits (including a crit) on Sil-Riak, and hurt Aramil, before succumbing to the barbarian.
Lance had to use a Heal spell on Tanzee when she succumbed to the demons secondary Poison damage. Shed been hit twice, and total CON loss would have killed her.
The group searched for another door here, before checking out the Shadows Lair and the Barrow Wights crypt: Sil-Riaks powerful Turning ability destroyed the Undead in each area without a problem. Being unable to find a doorway into the Tower itself, Drakhus used a Disintegrate on a section of the wall in Clytos prison to break into the Tower (DM Note: from the maps in the Tower section, I was unable to determine exactly how thick the Tower walls were. I guessed they were about 10 thick and therefore allowed the spell to work. There isnt a note in the module about using spells like this one).
They entered the Abjuration Chamber, where the Spellgorged Zombies attacked. One managed to throw a Cone of Cold at Aramil before both of them were cut down by weapons from all sides.

I'm really enjoying this. I picked up ToJ as part of the DM day pdf bundle and have only had time to glance over it up until now. I've been reading your write up and following along with the module at the same time. It does seem like there is an aweful lot of nastiness packed into very few pages Image . I've no experience playing, let alone DMing parties of this level, so it's enlighting to read Image . Nice use of the demon and I do like vrocks Image . Your group seemed to handle it well. I hope you manage to sort out the frictions between your players Image .

After sorting out the Abjuration Chamber, they moved on to Evocation, dispatching the Spellgorged Zombies and avoiding the Illusion traps by circling round the Sand Pit. They moved up to the Chamber of Illusions. Aramil started to venture into the Maze, when a Spellgorged stepped out of ther wall and landed a Disintegrate on him. He shook it off Image
He took down the Zombie and determined that the Maze was an illusion. He made a Will save to walk through the walls, no problem, and ended up taking down the second Spellgorged as well. The only person who failed a Will save was Gaspode who had to go round the long way Image
Next up, the Chamber of Enchantments, where a couple of them became entranced by their own reflections before Aramil closed his eyes, crawled across the floor and broke the mirror. That freed them all, including Imbo, who promptly joined the group (and who I even more promptly forgot about!).
Into the Lab, where the Invisible Stalker caused chaos amd miss chances, until Gaspode managed to land a decent Sneak Attack from hiding and it was all over.
Next up, The Chamber of transmutation and the Shield Guardian. A fairly tough fight, which caused some injury, but in which the PC's prevailed. They almost took the wand, though Sil-Riak picked it up he made his save (the sheep form was glimpsed briefly before he overcame the spell).
Thence the Chamber of Necromancy. The Vrock proved particularly useful, screching and gating in allies, whilst one Spellgorged use Finger of Death on Lance and succeeded! Image
The other used his Enervation spells to good effect, taking a level off Tanzee. Losing Lance, who was generally very effective, was a blow, and the fight went on longer than otherwise. They couldn't Raise him, so down on power and spells, decided to Teleport out.
They couldn't, of course, so decided to press on.
Chamber of Conjuration next, where they had to deal with summoned Vrocks dishing spores (which got a couple of PC's) and the Spellgorged. Gaspode has a field day, Sneak Attacking the demons from Invisibility and dealing massive damage.
Paraniods that they were, they avoided the Magic Circle. Image
So, they end up in Jhedophar's Chamber. Jhedophar greets them, and Sil-Riak steps forward to Turn him.
Fat chance!
Jhedophar uses the Symbol to Stun the party, then Time Stop to launch the listed attacks (refer my errata comments), which take the unfortunate cleric down to 1hp. After successfully Imprisoning Tanzee and Aramil, he uses another spell to take out Drakhus and Sil-Riak.
Which leaves an Invisible Gaspode, who parlays for his life, and the bodies of his comrades! Great role-playing from Mrs meomwt, there. Jhedophar reminds Gaspode about the deal they made with Exeterus, and asks if Gaspode will work for him. Gaspode says yes! Jhedophar gives him a Summoning Stone and Teleports him back to The Grey Citadel.
Where the campaign ended. Due to some personality issues with one player, we ended the game. He has agreed to take a break for a while from gaming with us, he realises that he has some problems he has to work through.

Nice write up and interesting results from the adventure.
One note:
Quote:

Just a note you may already be aware of - invisible stalkers are elementals and "normally" do not suffer sneak attack damage unless some feat or other factor overrode it.
