there's a bunch of them, but i don't have all of the notes handy...
hmm, off the top o' me head... there's Eltab, of the Red Wizards of Thay there's a yaun-ti demigod from 2E who was actually a demon prince, and i think a troglodyte lord as well there's another yuan-ti demon prince in an old issue of dragon... there was zanassu of FR, but i think he was destroyed by a drow god there's kerzit from the Mordenkainen's Fantastic Adventure module... ah, figures that demon lords would have to be chaotic and spread out all over the place. ***
don't quote me on that. :) visit The Creature Catalog for all your 3E monster needs! Check out My Homepage! :) |

AFAIK there's no difference between Lord and Prince, in the chaotic abyss
One demon ruler prefers to be called prince, the next likes the term lord more. |

In 1e, a Prince or Princess ruled an entire layer of the Abyss, whereas a Lord ruled a portion of a layer.
In case anyone's curious, I have some Abyssal stuff up on my web page at www.thepale.org/grodog/gh_abyss.html and on Canonfire! in my "Excerpts from the Demonomicon of Iggwilv" series at www.canonfire.com/htmlnew...ame=grodog |

Here is a more complete info on the lords of the Abyss, Part One:
Lolth - Demon Queen of Spiders.Ruler of the 66th layer of the Abyss, known as the Demonweb Pits. Her other names and titles are Arachne, Arachnadia, Auraushnee, Megwandir, Lloth, the Spider Queen, Mother of Lusts. Unlike most Demon Lords, Lolth started her career as a lesser goddess who was transformed into the form of a spider demoness after she betrayed the Seldarine. She is one of the 6 Monarchs of Demonium and she is associated with the aspect of life. All spiders and arachnid monsters, from aranea to ettercaps, are hers to command. Demonwise, yochlols, retrievers, and bebiliths are her choice servants. Her other minions are legion, including the Hands of Vengeance, Morag her marilith secretary, Belgos the vampire, Silussa the Succubus, as well as the Drow, of which she is patroness to, despite the attempts of other drow deities like Vhaeraun and Kiaransali to overthrow her. Of the other demon lords, she is enemy to Zuggtmoy, as well as Graz'zt, who supplanted some of the drow from her serivce in the world of Oerth. Demogorgon - Prince of DemonsRuler of the 88th layer (plus others it is said) of the Abyss known as the Brine Flats or more often, the Gaping Maw. Also known as the Sibilant Beast, Demogorgon is one of the six Monarchs of Demonium. and is associated with the demons of water. He hold sway over the rays known as the ixixtachitl and supposedly a host of marinal beasts. His area of influence extends over reptiles (namely snakes), birds, and primates (as his brother Mandrillagon is in the form of a horrid mandrill-like monstrosity). Demogorgon is credited with making the first of the retrievers and the first of the Death Knights. He has an artifact known as Venomfountain. All demons are his to command, although he has a penchant for balors, hezrous, bar-lguras and mariliths. He is mortal enemies with Orcus and Graz'zt. Orcus - Prince of the Undead Ruler of the 113th layer of the Abyss, Thanatos, the Belly of Death, once supplanted by the upstart drow goddess Kiaransali. Orcus is one of the six Monarchs of Demonium and he is associated with demons of air. His servants are undead of all sorts. Twisted humans worshipped this being, with necromancers making a large percentage of them. A race of goatlike demons are his chief servants, as do a large number of nabassu and babaus. A powerful balor named Glyphimhor serves him, as do a host of lesser demon lords such as Sonechard and Maphistal (not to be confused with Mastiphal, another prince of great power). He wields the Wand of Orcus, a powerful artifact that can kill at a touch. His enemies are Demogorgon and Graz'zt. Said to have recently acheived godhood. Next: Graz'zt, Zuggtmoy and Marduk "You know I'm unloveable...you don't have to tell me. Oh message received loud and clear, loud and clear."

Re: Lords of the Abyss | ||

Graz'zt - the Prince of Shadows
Graz'zt is the ruler of Azzagrat, the Triple Realm, layers 45, 46, and 47. It is said he ruled other layers as well, one of which is an infinite palace where he marshal his vast forces against Demogorgon and other rivals. Another is a layer named Mezzafgraduun, a realm of black plants and vegetations: trees with translucent gray trunks with jet black leaves, grass of the darkest soot.....and it is a realm inhabited by fierce and fearsome monsters. Graz'zt is a member of the race of demons known as the abat-dolors: tall ebony skinned with six fingers and toes. Graz'zt himself is supposedly the son of the anicent demoness known as Pale Night, and presumably an abat-dolor cheiftain. When Graz'zt ruled the nine clans of the Abat-dolor with his then-consort, Elazalag, until Iggwilv came and lured him away, setting up a "mongrel" empire, while forsaking his kin. Graz'zt is one of the Monarchs of Demonium and is associated with the demons of the earth. He wields his acid dripping wavy bladed sword known as Doomscreamer. His preferred servants are female fiends and monsters of all sorts, with lamias being one of his foremost worshippers and supporters. With Iggwilv, Graz'zt sired the evil demigod Iuz of Oerth. He is mortal enemies with Demogorgon and Orcus. He also opposes Zuggmtoy (because she is Iuz's consort) and have incurred the anger of Lolth for supplanting worship of the drow. His former consort Elazalag bears enmity toward him as well. He is served by the stick-thin androgen albino demon lord known as Verin (also Vuron, and in another aspect Ztefano). He is supposedly allies with Yeenoghu and Kostchtchie. ZUGGTMOY - Demoness Lady of Fungi Ruler of the 222nd layer of the Abyss (and possibly others), called Shedaklah, also Mycorji, or simply the Slime Pits, Zuggtmoy is lover and partner in crime with the demigod Iuz, and with him, built the infamous Elemental Temple of Evil. She is one of the Monarchs of Demonium and is associated with Death and Decay. Zuggtmoy appears as a monstrous fungoid creature but can also take the from of a deceptively feeble looking crone or a ravishingly beautiful human of dark beauty. She created the artifact called The Skull of the Golden Death, as well as the noisome Cauldron of Corruption. She is kin to the demon lord known as Juiblex. All fungoid, oozes, slimes, molds, jellies, puddings and similar ameoboid monsters are hers to command. Demonwise, the alkiliths are her favored servants, as well as a race of demons akined to the myconids of the Prime plane. A balor known as Uliel is one of her foremost demonic servants. Zuggtmoy is known by a variety of titles, Lady of Fungi, Mother of Blights, Mistress of Shedaklah (presumably a realm within her layer), Queen of Rot. Her one joy is to spread her fungi across the multiverse, turning it into a nightmarish miasma of spores and slimes. Her realm is completely filled with fungi, above ground AND below....there are spore deserts, ooze rivers, jelly lakes, slime oceans, mold prairies, toadstool forests, mountains of unidentifiable fungoid matter; even the clouds in the sky are really clouds of spores. Enemies wise, Zuggtmoy opposes Graz'zt, thus she occasionally sides with Orcus and Demogorgon. She also opposes Lolth, to a lesser extend. MARDUK - King of the Fire Demons Not well known in worlds like Oerth and Faeraun, it is possible that this terrible fire fiend is very much well known in other prime worlds, much to their bitter regret. Marduk is the so-called King of the Fire Demons and is thus supposedly an ascended balor who remain close to his origins. He is one of the 6 monarchs of Demonium and is associated, naturally enough, with demons of fire. Not to be confused with a benevolent Babylonian deity of the same name, Marduk wields Firefan, a terrible artifact. Unlike the other five monarchs who have their attention divided between the Prime and the Abyss, Marduk seems more interesting in concentrating his power base in the Abyssal layers. There is a proto-demon of fire named Palvlag whom it seems Marduk supplanted. Next: Yeenoghu, Juiblex, Ilsidahur "You know I'm unloveable...you don't have to tell me. Oh message received loud and clear, loud and clear."

6 Monarchs of Demonium and Their Associated Aspects.

Hmmm...I personally think it should be like this:
Name: Lolth (Demon Queen of Spiders) Aspect: Life Name: Demogorgon (Demon Lord Supreme) Aspect: Magic Name: Orcus (Demon Prince of Undead) Aspect: Death Name: Pazuzu (Ruler of the Infernal Skies) Aspect: Air Name: Graz'zt (Prince of Shadows) Aspect: Earth Name: Marduk (Demon King of Fire Demons) Aspect: Fire Name: Dagon (Demon Prince of Sea Creatures) Aspect: Water Name: Zuggtmoy (Demoness Lady of Fungi) Aspect: Decay Name: Yeenoghu (Demon Lord of Gnolls) Aspect: War Name: Juiblex (The Faceless Lord) Aspect: Pestilence Baphomet (Demon Lord of Minotaurs) Aspect: Strength Kostchtche (Demon Lord of Frost Giants) Aspect: Ice But then again, that is just my opinion. |

Well the concept of the 6 Monarchs of Demonium: Lolth, Demogorgon, Orcus, Graz'zt, Zuggtmoy, and Marduk was Gary Gygax's idea.
The four male demons each represented an elemental aspect of demonkind (Demogorgon with water, Marduk with fire, etc). The pair of females represents creation (Lolth) and destruction (Zuggtmoy). Re: Yeenoghu, Juiblex, Ilsidahur
|
YEENOGHU
Known as the "Demon Lord of Gnolls," this 12 feet tall gnoll-like demon lord rules the 421st layer of the Abyss known as Salted Wound, the 422nd layer knwon as the Seeping Woods, and the 423rd layer known as the Smouldering Waste (under the auspices of the Gnoll Lord's minion Zalintar). Yeenoghu has a stronghold the size of a city which is pulled by slaves as it slowly cross the barren salt wastes of his layers on colossal rollers. Yeenoghu is also known as Yooghuragh and Manganaw, or Gneeoghu. His servitors are gnolls, flinds (and all their subraces), hyenas of all sorts (especially dire spieces and hyenadons). His portfolio includes savagery and violence. His choice demonic servants are glabrezus and a race of demonlings known as gnoles. He is also strongly connected with ghouls and ghasts, much to the chagrin of Orcus, and is paid homage by the King of Ghouls. Yeenoghu has created the shoosuva, an undead servitor resembling a half rotted hyenadon. In the Abyss, he is opposed to Baphomet, lord of minotaurs, and is allied to Graz'zt and Kostchtchie. Yeenoghu's favored weapon is his dread Triple Flail, which like Graz'zt's Doomscreamer and Vuron's crystal spear, is one of the 66 Arms of the Abyss. JUIBLEX Known as the Faceless Lord, the Lord of Many Forms, Jubilex, Slime Lord, Szhublox, this demon prince held sway over all slimes, oozes, and puddings. Said to be a kin to the demon queen Zuggtmoy, Juiblex dwells on the 222nd layer of the Abyss along with Zuggtmoy. However, he also hold sway the 528th level of the Abyss; an endless miasma of slimes and jellie feeding off one another. Juiblex's chief servitors are the alkiliths, and in the Abyss, he is the least politically involved of the princes, except that he is allied with Zuggtmoy and thus her foes are his foes and her allies are his allies. ILSIDAHUR Nothing much is known about Ilsidahur except that he was a demon lord who was venerated in the past by humans in the Amedio Jungles on Oerth. Shrines dedicated to this foul being can be still be found in remote reaches of the Amedio. It is certain he has more influences on other worlds. This demon lord appears as a gigantic ape with a long prehensile tail and huge bronze ram-like horns. Bronze objects are especially prized by this being and it is known that sacrificial victims are bronzed alive during vile rituals to Ilsidahur. The demon lord's chief servants are nalfeshnees and bar-lguras. His simian characteristics have some suggested that he is a relative of Demogorgon and Mandrillagon. Ilsidahur is ruler of a layer of the Abyss called the Bronze Nightmare. He lives in a bronze pagoda decorated with the bronzed remains of his sacrificial victims, and is instantly aware of any object made of bronze that enter his layer. NEXT: Abraxas, Ahazu, Ahrimanes "You know I'm unloveable...you don't have to tell me. Oh message received loud and clear, loud and clear."

Re: Abraxas, Ahazu, Ahrimanes
|
Abraxas
Called the Supreme Unknown, Abraxas has a humanoid torso with the head of a rooster and serpents for legs. He rules the layer known as Pleroma. Abraxas is a demon prince who is powerfully connected with evil magic; the word abracadabra and the number 365 are sacred and connected to him. Avian, serpentlike and chimerically shaped demons are his servants. Ahazu A demon lord rather than a prince, Ahazu is supposedly the most powerful of the ahazu-demons. Called "the Seizer", this creature is squat in stature but has long, terrible and wicked claws. He is also a spreader of disease and pestilence. Ahazu made his home in a fortress in the first layer of the Abyss. Ahrimanes Also called Ahriman, Ahrimanes is the Demon Prince of Darkness. A powerful lord with a horrifiic appearance to match. Ahrimanes has a huge horned humanoid body with skin as black as night. He has 8 faces, 3 on his head, two on his arms, 2 on his legs, and one on his posterior(!). But usually, his person is surronded by a circle of cloying darkness blacker than the darkest pitch. One of the most powerful of the demon princes, Ahrimanes is worshipped as a god by many twisted creatures on the Prime, and is viewed upon by many on many worlds as the epitome of evil. An elite group of seven archdemons serves him as his personal agents and enforcers. The race of demons known as the aeshma are his favored and prefered servants. Ahrimanes rule a layer of the Abyss in which lies his capital city Ahriman-abud. Next: Aldinach, Alrunes, Anarazel "You know I'm unloveable...you don't have to tell me. Oh message received loud and clear, loud and clear."

Re:Aldinach, Alrunes, Anarazel
|
Aldinach
Known as the "Aldinach of the 33 Winds", or Alrinach, this scheming demoness lairs in a fortress in the first layer of the Abyss. It is possible that she has other territories and strongholds scattered throughout the Abyss. Aldinach is closely connected to the Egyptian pantheon. She is supposedly responsible for storms and tempests. She has many forms, one of which is supposedly an evilchurning cloud which spontaneously materialize clawed limbs and toothy maws. Another is that of a beautiful blue skinned winged woman with the feet of a bird of prey. Her fortress in the Abyss is surronded by a storm similar to a hurricane, about 666 miles in diameter. In the eye of this demonic storm lies her stronghold Tempesta. Her main enemy in the Abyss is the demon lord Bechard, who, like Aldinach, is a storm demon. Alrunes The demoness Alrunes is supposedly the most powerful of the race of demon called the alrune. As such, she is supposedly an avenger of the Demon Queen Nocticula. Alrunes is a demoness closely connected with nature and vegetation. In appearance she appears as an alrune, she is also known to appear as a nude human female with long dark hair, or as a demonic-looking tree which bear strange fruits. It is said those who fed upon the fruits will be Alrunes' slave forever. Alrunes has a realm in the 260th layer of the Abyss aptly called The Green Abyss, supposedly a forest-realm filled with malevolent demons and creatures. Anarazel Called the "Guardian of a Thousand Terrors", Anarazel is a demon prince who rules the layer of the Abyss known as The Caves of Chaos; an underground realm not unlike the underdarks of various prime worlds. In this layer lurks the race of demons created exclusively by the demon prince: the paigoel. Appearing as a massive humanoid with huge bat-like wings. He wears armor of plates and scales which melds so well with his natural form that it is difficult to tell which are living parts of his body. Two huge horns jut from his head, crowned with a greasy mane of black hair. Curiously enough, Anarazel wears a veil of deep vermilion, covering what is supposedly the most horrifying visage of the multiverse. According to demonologists, Anarazel's main concern is fear, for he Anarazel cause spectres to appear, causes earthquakes, ring bells at midnight, and inspire a thousand fear and terrors among men. He is also the guardian of treasures that are buried beneath the ground. Politically, he is supposedly allied with the demoness Barbu, who holds the secret to the Philosopher's Stone, but is against Graz'zt and the Cagrino, as both of these demon lords are connected to the earth. Next: Ansitif, Ardat, Areex "You know I'm unloveable...you don't have to tell me. Oh message received loud and clear, loud and clear."
