This recently came up in my Red Hand of Doom game. Evidently there is a bit of a discrepancy in how incorporeality is handled in the DMG vs. the MM. (I&#39;ve
bolded the relevant detail.)


From the DMG section on incorporeality:



  Incorporeal creatures can be harmed only by other incorporeal creatures, by magic weapons, or by spells, spell-like effects, or supernatural effects. They
  are immune to all nonmagical attack forms. They are not burned by normal fires, affected by natural... ]]>

			<description><![CDATA[ Damien, if you have the MM 3, 4 or 5 they have an extended, revised definition of incorporeality.  Unfortunately, I don&#39;t have my books to reference
(I&#39;m at the library), so I can&#39;t tell you offhand if they include the pos/neg energy clause.

In terms of flavor and in-game logic, I would think that incorporeal creatures should be affected by pos/neg energy.  I&#39;m pretty sure that incorporeal
undead are affected by holy water, which I believe is infused with positive... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ I think it&#39;s entirely thematic and appropriate for positive energy to bypass incorporeality that derives from association with the Negative Energy Plane.
It certainly fits with canon.. turning undead has always been described as the channeling of positive energy, and it wouldn&#39;t make sense for it to fail
half the time when the target was a ghost, in my opinion.

If I were describing it I might say that positive and negative energy effects extend onto the ethereal plane (or... ]]></description>
