So, how was everyone's GenCon? Any war tales to recount?

Wednesday night, the Tabletop folks grabbed a table at the Ram for us, which I was more than happy to take advantage of. The group was smallish, but I got a chance to meet one of the gents behind Rocketship Empires.

Met up with various necromancer board folks over the next few days. Snoring Rock (& his crew), Sen the Collector, and (by gentle persuasion and temptation) Hammerliliy of the Tabletop crew...

GenCon 09: anything going on Thursday night?

Well, Friday night it looks like I'll be playing in tacojohn's Caverns of Thracia game, and Saturday night I plan to play in Sangrolu's City of Brass game, but nothing's planned for Thursday night.

Any games going on? Any plans for just a bunch of us Necroboarders getting together for dinner or anything?

pay as you go/prepaid cell phone for Indy area?

Anyone know of an inexpensive option for a prepaid or pay as you go cell phone that will work in Indianapolis? I've done some checking around and so far haven't found anything. Verizon has a pay-as-you-go phone, but the phone itself is around $100, then there's an activation fee, then the cost of the calls. Not cheap.

I don't have a cell phone or a wi-fi enabled Ipod Touch or anything like that, and cell phones are definitely the easiest way to make arrangements...

Necromancer Games Gen Con 2009 Contacts List

Well, Gen Con is just around the corner, less than a month away in fact, so I'd like to get the Gen Con 2009 Contacts List organized. I'll even volunteer to coordinate the list this year. This list is a helpful way to arrange social meet-ups during the convention as well as sorting the details of game sessions - both official and unofficial, off-grid games.

Well, I posted this earlier on the Necroboards and only Snoring Rock indicated interest. I figure I'll give it one more shot and post it here where it belongs under the "Conventions" section of the board.

I would be willing to run some "off grid" 3.5 DnD games if anyone is interested. I'd prefer to run the games in the evening. I have mostly low level stuff available, though I do have a mid level (6-7th ish) adventure also available. If there is any...

North Texas RPG Con is a mini-Con that is just getting started. This first time out is a modest endeavor. It is June 5th 2009 - Friday 4:00pm through June 7th 2009 - Sunday 1:00pm.

The highlights are a tour of the Reaper Miniatures facility and Frank Mentzer as guest of honor. You can bet I'm bringing my B/X box sets for autographs.

I've been going to Gen Con for many years now (since the early '90s), but I'm seriously debating not attending this year.

I'm facing 4 furloughs this year (4 full weeks without pay), but I could still probably swing attending one more time. But I don't know if it would be worth it.

The economy has hit everyone hard, but what do you think it might do to Gen Con? I'm curious to see what everyone else thinks. For me:

How did everyone going to Gen Con do with their hotel reservations? I logged in at exactly 12:00 PM EST today, and was able to book a room at the Crowne Plaza at Historic Union Station. I have never stayed at this hotel before, and was wondering what folks who have thought of it? It amazed me at how quickly the available hotel rooms (especially those close to the Convention Center) were gobbled up. Within 30 minutes the only available hotel rooms were 8+ miles away. WOW!!!

Patrick L. or any other Old Style Gamer who might go to San Antonio (first weekend in March). I tried this Con last year with nothing arranged in advance, and it bombed big time, I could not get the time of day from any D&D'ers. I would be interested in running a day of Inferno using old-style rules (ie. not 3E and not 4E), but only if I had assurances that 3 or 4 players would show up for it. Any takers? It looks like my gaming group is tending towards Pathfinder rules on an exploratory basis. So I am going to Gencon...How should I respond to this inquiry from my mate? What faction would be most interesting for a me to try?

I have nine Wilderlands of High Adventure demos running at Gen Con, three each Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, at 9 am, 1 pm, and 4 pm.
